Melbourne favourite, Chingón Cantina Y Taqueria is set to take Taco Tuesday to a whole new level when they set up shop in Eagle Lane in late August.
Adam Barton and Emmanuel Sakellarakis, the owners behind popular underground live music venue Brooklyn Standard are teaming up with Melbourne venue owners the Balleau brothers to bring the Chingón sister restaurant to Brisbane.
Setting up shop next to Eagle Lane’s Brooklyn Standard, the venue will pay homage to the colours and design of traditional Mexican cantinas. Designed by the Brooklyn Standard team, the exterior will exhibit a quirky look while the fitout will be carried out by Bazel and Co. With plans for an upcoming Cuban bar in Eagle Lane, Chingón is expected to fit in perfectly with the vibe and atmosphere.
Known for its authentic Mexican food, Melbourne’s Chingón won the Good Food Guide People’s Choice Award as well as a nomination for best new restaurant. Keeping on par with the Melbourne restaurant, the new menu embodies the same authentic Mexican street food style while incorporating the traditional cooking styles and flavours the Balleau brothers experienced growing up in New Mexico.
Chingón is preparing to up Brisbane’s Mexican game with a smorgasboard of dishes including five types of soft tacos and three types of salsa. Make sure to try the grilled garlic prawns, chipotle crema, and lime or char grilled achiote pork with pineapple and capsicum salsa, rolled up in a handmade soft corn tortilla.
It’s not just the food to look forward to either. The drinks menu has a selection of sippable premium tequila’s and mezcals served with either sangria to verdita to cleanse the palate between dishes. If Tequila is not your thing, don’t fret as there is also a selection of boutique beers and wines available behind the bar.
Whether you are looking to dine in and enjoy the exotic cocktail list or experience the full menu takeaway, Chingón is a fresh and refined approach to everyone’s favourite late night cravings.
Chingón is set to open in Eagle Lane Thursday August 18.
