Ah Monday’s hey? Well, Bao & Bowls is the perfect antidote to Monday-itis. The Balfour Kitchen, once a stunning Queenslander home, is now a charming yet chic restaurant, featuring a rooftop bar and courtyard terrace. With a quintessential Queenslander ambience, The Balfour is nestled away in New Farm surrounded by the sweet scent of Frangipanis. This award-winning restaurant is now bringing Bao, Bowls and BYO to cure all the Monday-itis that ails ya.
Bao’s are like a soft cloud that envelopes the distinctive sweet, hot, sour and salty flavours of Vietnamese cuisine deliciousness. Build-your-own bao lets you choose from a selection of fillings including pulled pork, tamari mushrooms, fried prawns, pickles, sriracha slaw and toppings including 10 spices, hot & sweet sauce and tamarind dressing.
Not only that, you get a choice between twice-cooked beef in Aunty 5’s sauce on shaved cabbage, Asian herb salad OR a Vietnamese curry of tofu, baby corn, broccolini or perhaps try the Chef’s special bowl ($8 Supplement) that changes weekly. Be prepared to finish the night off with the drool-worthy ‘I scream for ice cream’, dessert speciality: condensed milk & cinnamon ice cream with chocolate crunch pearls. The best bit… its $49 per person! Wow!

About the author
In 1999 I attended Livid Festival as a tiny teen, my love of music, festivals, arts and culture grew from that momentous moment. As much as I enjoy a gig, I dig getting out of town and escaping into nature exploring secret beaches and waterfalls. I decided at some point that I better get onto that Uni degree, hey? I lived in Freo for several years then came back to my hometown to attend QUT to get that BA in Media & Communications. Can catch me procrasta-cleaning, finding the perfectly ripe avo at the markets or laughing enthusiastically at the slightest of amusement.
