Brisbane is in that sweet spot of spring, just after the winter months but before the rainy and humid summer season, and that means beautiful weather! To help you make the most of it, we’ve rounded up a list of fun things for you to do in Brisbane this weekend!

1) Brisbane Festival: River of Light

On a budget? For an inexpensive date idea that’ll still wow your partner, head down to the Brisbane Festival for River of Light, which is a completely free event! River of Light combines art and technology for an awe-inspiring light, laser and water spectacle that tells an Indigenous story. Take along a picnic blanket and some snacks, and set yourselves up at Southbank for a beautiful show.

2) Blanc de Blanc Encore

Also at Brisbane Festival is the wildly popular burlesque extravaganza, Blanc de Blanc Encore. For a cheeky twist to your weekend, book yourself in for an adults-only party that’ll have you outrageously entertained! Tickets start from $59 and are available here.

3) Muriel’s Wedding: The Musical

If burlesque isn’t quite your thing (or if you’ve already seen Blanc de Blanc Encore!) but you still want to catch a show, you don’t want to go past Muriel’s Wedding! Based on the iconic 1994 film of the same name, this stage musical features music by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nutall. This is the one for you and your girls -- take your gal pals, sister or mum along for the perfect cheeky night out! Tickets start from $59 and are available here.

4) Evening Lights by Elisa Jane Carmichael

One of Brisbane’s hottest new projects, King Street in Bowen Hills, has many hidden gems -- one of them being artwork by Ngugi woman and artist, Elisa Jane Carmichael, which lights up the pavement along King Street after sunset. Carmichael’s art, inspired by the poetry of Indigenous writer Oodgeroo Noonuccal, explores dusk, fire and her cultural identity and heritage. You can check out Carmichael’s artwork on King Street until September 28.

5) Oz Comic-Con

Do you identify as a major nerd? Or maybe you have a huge passion for a show/comic/movie/anime and have no one to talk to about it? If yes, you won’t want to miss out on Oz Comic-Con, the hub of all things pop culture! You can come along in cosplay (that means dressing up as your favourite pop culture character) or just as yourself and meet other people who are into your niche! You also have the opportunity to meet actors from the shows you love and explore stalls with merch from aaall your favourite pop culture icons. Oz Comic-Con is on this weekend at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre; tickets start from $37.50 and are available here.

6) Bite Markets

As part of the Tastes of Moreton Bay, Bite Markets is open every Friday and Saturday from 4pm - 10pm until September 28! Entry is only $3, so come along for a culinary adventure with the family, with over 40 vendors; the focus this month is on supporting local strawberries, so look out for fresh punnets and strawberry-themed desserts! You can find the Bite Markets on Nolan Drive, Morayfield.

7) Beer InCider

Kick-off your weekend early on Friday for the Beer InCider, a tasting festival that showcases over 50 breweries and cideries, as well as some of Australia’s best food and best bands for live music. You’ll want to be at the Brisbane Showgrounds for this food and drink fest! Tickets start from $38 and are available here.

8) Brisbane PARK(ing) Day

For another reason to start your weekend early, you can hit the city streets for PARK(ing) Day, an annual worldwide event where teams of creatives transform on-street car parking spots into temporary public parks and other spaces for people to enjoy for the day. What better excuse to have a wander through Brisbane and see our streets livened up with unique art?

And there you have it -- those are our top 8 picks for this weekend! Keep an eye out on our Instagram for more places you can hit up this weekend--or even during the week. Hope you enjoy your sunny weekend, Brisbane folks!
