Cricket is ingrained in our Summer culture and the popularity for T20 continues to grow. The signing of international superstars sees Brisbane Heat firing up for a blazing season ahead.
Since 2011, Brisbane Heat has been steadily adding fuel to the T20 fire. And in 2014-2015, the upcoming Summer season has emerged as the hottest ticket in town. But for all the hype and buzz surrounding cricket this summer, Brisbane Heat coach Stuart Law is keeping decidedly cool about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in this year’s KFC T20 Big Bash. Stuart knows that with all of the excitement around the BBL, the players are ready. “We just want to play our best cricket and entertain the fans,’’ he maintains. “We’ll be better this time. We are well prepared for whatever is thrown at us.”
With Nathan Reardon and Ben Cutting recently donning the Aussie Cap against South Africa, Captain James Hopes is on track to lead a strong team into this season. But to really fan sparks, test cricket legend Allan Border is onboard as the club’s mentor, leaving every avenue open for Brisbane Heat to fire it up.
Heat institution Dan Vettori is joined by West India’s Samuel Badree in wearing the teal. While the addition of T20’s world number one bowler is exciting news, it is English test great Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff that stands out as this Summer’s fireball. “I really enjoyed my T20 season with The Lancs,” Freddie enthuses. “The opportunity to keep playing is something I am very pleased about. It’s going to be great heading to Brisbane and getting into the swing of things,” he proclaims. “I’ve seen from afar how the BBL has evolved so quickly to become a world-class competition, and it’s a challenge that I am certainly up for.”
