Valentine’s Single In Brisbane

From the archives: This is from our original site, MyCityLife, posted back on 10 February 2015

Thanks to rom-coms, there’s quite the conspiracy: being single means being lonely. No more rom-coms. Bring on the action sci-fi movies.

In this modern age, being single is rather awesome: singles are great for the economy, they’re interesting and fun, have healthy social lives, enjoy more bed space and get loads of time to themselves. Most significantly, singles are changing the world: A social movement across the last half-century is the fact that people live alone – great for real estate. And with more time under their belts and less responsibilities, singles achieve great things in their careers. Finally, they have a better sense of self.

Sure there are a few downsides like trying to do up the zipper on the back of your dress – but being single doesn’t define who you are as a person. Being single describes a person who is strong enough to live and enjoy life without depending on a significant other. Director of introductions agency Ideal Introduction‘s Linda Prescott has some great tips on how to survive Valentine’s Day – which you can read all about right here

But on International Single’s Awareness Day, MyCityLife looks at the Top 5 Ways of celebrating being Single In The City.

As the movie hits the silver screen in the lead up to Single Awareness Day, looking for love comes in many forms.

This is how it goes: Serial Daters: Date in the name of Charity. Five Dates. Five Weeks. For Charity.

Go back to what really matters to the heart and soul: music.

For the best in live sounds in Brisbane, Sonny’s House of Blues in The City or Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall on Petrie Terrace will always guarantee the sweetest bands: free entry and a premium lineup of top shelf spirits. It’s on like a Fender Rhodes.

Black Bear Lodge in The Valley presents ethereal layers of spacious, soul-drenched indie-pop with BANFF on Valentine’s Day Eve and Sydney electronic duo Left on the Saturday.

From the Beer Garden at The Wickham Hotel in The Valley comes underground hero of tech house Danny Howells for an epic open-air party. Expect banging beats and electronic treats.

Alternatively, gather your tribe and hookup – don’t be the lone wolf on this journey.
