Cirque du Soleil is back in Brisbane with a new show that’s already dazzling audiences. And with performances only available until November 10, you have to get in fast if you want to witness this stunning spectacle.
One of the things I’ve always loved about Cirque is that their shows are full of feats of incredible athleticism and acrobatics, but at their heart they have … well, heart. There’s a story to get wrapped up in, moments designed to give the audience goosebumps, laugh and cheer at the top of their lungs. Cirque du Soleil Luzia is no exception.
The show takes place under the iconic big top located near the Royal Queensland Golf Club, but the real story unfolds half a world away. Luzia takes audiences on a dreamlike journey of Mexico, inspired by the people, places and stories of the country.
Luzia comes from as combo of the Spanish words “luz” (light) and “lluvia” (rain), and the show definitely captures both of these elements to stunning effect.
Luzia takes Cirque’s iconic blend of awe-inspiring acrobatics, sumptuous sets and colourful creativity to a whole new level with the first use of water in a touring show. Watching a trapeze artist swing effortlessly through a curtain of rain while the sun sets on a Mexican vista is truly breathtaking.
The clown characters deliver great moments of levity and joy while the crew cleans up from the last spectacle and sets up for the next. All of the acts blend seamlessly to transport us out of Brisbane and into a magical land of old folklore and modern landscapes and Mexican iconography.
There’s not a bad seat in the house under the iconic striped big top. Even so, the stage rotates at different times to ensure everyone gets the very best view of the action.
You’ve only got til November 10 to take the trip to the waking dream of an imaginary Mexico that is Luzia.
Cirque Du Soleil Luzia, until November 10, under the Big Top at Curtain Ave E near the Royal Queensland Golf Club. Get your tickets here.
