There’s a particular kind of joy that happens when a room full of women all know the exact same lyric. The opening beat hits. Someone squeals. Suddenly the whole crowd is belting out a song that’s been living rent-free in their brains since 1999. That’s essentially the energy behind Sip and Sing, the wildly popular women’s singalong party that’s about to land in Brisbane — and if sold-out events around the country are anything to go by, it’s going to be loud in the best possible way.
Created by Australian founders Hannah Hession and Heather Smith, the event is built around a very simple idea: gather hundreds of women in one room, pour the drinks, turn up the throwbacks and let the singing take care of the rest.
This time the party is heading to Brisbane’s Eatons Hill Hotel, where more than 1,500 women are expected to hit the dancefloor for an evening that leans unapologetically into nostalgia.

The playlist reads like a millennial group chat. Think the girl-power sparkle of Spice Girls, the disco brilliance of ABBA, the pop princess era of Britney Spears and the country-pop confidence of Shania Twain. Then throw in a few scream-along anthems from Taylor Swift for good measure.
Basically, if you once sang it into a hairbrush in your bedroom mirror, it will probably make an appearance.
The vibe is closer to a giant singalong party than a traditional night out. A high-energy DJ and MC keep the music rolling while the crowd becomes the real headliner. Inflatable microphones bounce around the dancefloor. Confetti cannons and cold sparks add a little spectacle. Glitter makes an appearance because of course it does. By the time the chorus hits, everyone is involved.

According to the founders, that collective energy is the magic of the night. When hundreds of voices all land on the same lyric at the same time, the room lifts in a way that’s hard to explain unless you’ve experienced it. It’s less about performing and more about letting loose. No judgement, no awkward dancefloor politics. Just a room full of women reliving the songs that shaped road trips, breakups, friendships and questionable early-2000s fashion choices.
Translation: this is the kind of night where you arrive planning to “take it easy” and end up losing your voice somewhere around the third throwback anthem. Brisbane has plenty of good nights out, but this one is built specifically for women who want a dancefloor that feels like pure, unfiltered fun.
And yes, you will absolutely hear someone yelling “I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want.”
