There’s a new reason to look up in Fortitude Valley. Above Rooftop Pool & Bar has officially opened atop Ovolo The Valley, and it’s already stealing the spotlight. With its sun-drenched terrace, shimmering pool, and skyline views that practically demand a spritz in hand, Above blends Mediterranean charm with Brisbane’s easy-going attitude.
The rooftop feels like it’s been whisked straight from a coastal holiday and dropped neatly into the city. It’s bright, breezy, and designed for afternoons that linger long past sunset. Think mezze plates, music, cocktails, and conversation floating through the warm air.
The space balances texture and tone beautifully—tiled detailing, soft light, and lush greenery that give it a laid-back luxury. It’s sophisticated without trying too hard, and you can sense that signature Ovolo playfulness in every corner.
At the centre of the experience is an impressive food and drink team. Consulting chef Justin North and head chef Kya Knights have crafted an Australian-Mediterranean menu that’s as relaxed as it is refined. It’s all about share-style plates that celebrate sunshine and simplicity: stone-baked pita brushed with linseed and garlic oil, old-school hummus with crunchy chilli oil, beetroot and bourghal spread that’s as pretty as it is punchy, and kingfish ceviche with avocado and pickled cucumber. Every dish is light, fresh, and built for grazing between sips.
Behind the bar, award-winning mixologist Jake Down (of Distild fame) leads the charge. His cocktail list is a celebration of bright, expressive flavours with an Australian twist—pistachio, saffron, rose, lemon myrtle and desert lime make frequent appearances. The standout? The Mirage, a refreshing mix of Belvedere Vodka, passionfruit, rose water and desert lime soda that somehow captures the entire mood of the venue in a single glass.
Above is designed for connection and escape in equal measure. It seats 60 or welcomes 120 standing guests, with live jazz, acoustic sessions, and seasonal events keeping the energy shifting with Brisbane’s arts calendar.
It’s more than just another rooftop bar. Above is a mood—a little slice of Mediterranean summer set against Brisbane’s skyline. The kind of place you pop up to for one drink and find yourself hours later, shoes off, music humming, and another round already on its way.
