If you’ve ever read Where is the Green Sheep? at bedtime, you’ll know the magic—it’s that moment when little voices join in, giggling, guessing, and turning the pages just a bit faster to find the answer.

Now imagine that same joy… but bigger, brighter, and right in front of your eyes.

This March and April, families across Queensland are being invited into that world as Where is the Green Sheep? leaps from page to stage in a delightful live theatre experience designed especially for young children.

First stop: the Sunshine Coast. At The Events Centre Caloundra, the beloved story comes to life in a series of “baa-rilliant” performances that promise colour, movement, and plenty of giggles. Then, the adventure heads to Brisbane, landing at the Playhouse QPAC from April 13 to 18, bringing the magic to city audiences.

Created by the award-winning Monkey Baa Theatre Company, this production is based on the iconic book by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek—a story that has been adored by families for more than 20 years.

Where is the Green Sheep? is an immersive, sensory-rich theatre experience designed especially for children aged one to six. Through a playful blend of puppetry, animation, music, and movement, young audiences are invited to actively join the search. Along the way, they’ll meet all their favourite sheep—Blue Sheep, Red Sheep, Bath Sheep, Bed Sheep—each bursting with personality and fun.

And of course, the big question remains: where is the Green Sheep?

What makes this show truly special is how it connects with its audience. Co-created with students from Bankstown West Public School—whose voices help narrate the story—it feels authentic, warm, and wonderfully child-focused.

Artistic Director Eva Di Cesare hopes families will walk away with more than just smiles. “Through the shared live experience… they are left with lifelong memories of joy, laughter, and whimsy,” she says—and it’s easy to see why.

For many children, this will be their very first trip to the theatre. And that’s exactly what makes it magical. The lights, the music, the laughter—it all comes together to create a moment that sticks.

So whether you’re on the Sunshine Coast or planning a day out in Brisbane, this is one adventure worth jumping into.
