After captivating audiences across the country, the Broadway musical Anastasia the Musical is officially bound for the Lyric Theatre, QPAC from September 2026 — and if you grew up watching the beloved 1997 animated film on repeat, this one is going to hit you right in the heart.
Yes, that Anastasia.
The sweeping romance. The mystery of a lost princess. The unforgettable songs that somehow still live rent-free in your head decades later. The stage musical takes everything audiences adored about the animated classic and expands it into a lush, cinematic theatrical experience — bigger, deeper and even more emotionally resonant.

At its centre is Anya, a young woman determined to uncover the truth about her past. Her journey takes her from the shadows of post-revolution Russia to the glittering promise of 1920s Paris, joined by a charming conman, a lovable former aristocrat and pursued by a relentless officer intent on stopping her. It’s part historical intrigue, part grand romance, and wholly transportive.
Queensland’s own Georgina Hopson leads the company as Anya, bringing the story home in more ways than one. She’s joined by a stellar cast including Robert Tripolino as Dmitry, Joshua Robson as Gleb, Rodney Dobson as Vlad, Rhonda Burchmore as Countess Lily and Nancye Hayes AM as the Dowager Empress — a line-up that promises both vocal power and genuine theatrical gravitas.
Created by the Tony Award-winning team behind some of Broadway’s most celebrated works — including writer Terrence McNally and songwriting duo Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens — Anastasia premiered on Broadway in 2017 and has since enchanted audiences around the world. Under the direction of Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak, the production blends opulent design, sweeping score and heartfelt storytelling into one truly immersive experience.

And while the animated film gave us magic and adventure, the stage musical deepens the emotional stakes. The score still features favourites like “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December,” but they soar in a new way live on stage — carried by a full company, sumptuous orchestrations and breathtaking visuals.
This isn’t just a night at the theatre. It’s an escape. A grand, romantic adventure. A story about identity, belonging and the pull of home — themes that feel especially meaningful as the production arrives in Brisbane.
Tickets for the Brisbane season go on pre-sale to waitlist subscribers from Monday 2 March, with general public sales opening Friday 6 March. If the response elsewhere is any indication, you’ll want to secure yours early.
From Imperial palaces to Parisian boulevards, Anastasia is bringing its epic journey to QPAC — and Brisbane audiences are about to be swept away.
