After taking a well-deserved break from touring, The Pierce Brothers have returned with their first single since 2018. The song is called Kanko and it should be on everyone’s road trip playlists as soon as the borders reopen. With a mellow, acoustic vibe, it’s the perfect escape from isolation, a call to freedom, and a reminder that better times will come again. Similar to the folky vibes of Ziggy Alberts and Angus and Julia Stone, brothers Jack and Pat wanted this track to be reminiscent of their original sound.

“We’ve done a lot of varied styles over the last few releases and we really wanted to get back to our folk roots, simple songs with heart and a basic message behind them,” Jack explained in an interview.

Alongside the single, the brothers also released a music video, which, during isolation, was a feat in and of itself. Though their initial idea of filming in the New Zealand mountains had to change, the brothers improvised with footage from their tours over the last few years and clips of them performing in their home studio. The video is a reminder that isolation won’t be forever and there’s plenty to look forward to!

Kanko is the catchy first single of The Pierce Brothers’ new album coming out in 2020. Though still unsure what the rest of the year will look like in terms of touring, Jack and Pat are hopeful they can go ahead with their regional Australia tour starting at the end of October.

“We’re going to be releasing a new single every 6-8 weeks this year. We can’t tour these new songs at the moment, so we’ll be slowly rolling out songs from the new album all year. We’re so stoked to be finally releasing music again, even if we can’t play live.”
