Faded into obscurity are the trailers, promotional advertisements and character posters for the impending television event of the year. Everybody who’s anybody knows Friday, October 27th is no ordinary day. The one day on the calendar anyone with a Netflix subscription has eagerly been awaiting all year, the return of our favourite locals from the town of Indiana, Hawkins is upon us.
With the countdown clock going strong and a good eighty to ninety percent of great programming fans preparing their TV’s for what it’s in store this evening, the long awaited follow up to last year’s surprise smash hit returns after fifteen months. Yes, you better believe it – Stranger Things: Season 2 is here.
With an official synopsis that reads “1984 and the citizens of Hawkins are still reeling from the horrors of the demogorgon and the secrets of the Hawkins lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who have survived” and a nine episode arc all being released in one go for your own viewing pleasure, you can bet your ass if this doesn’t end in a rewarding binge over the weekend with friends and junk food, then you’ll be spending all next week revisiting your favourite characters right in time for Halloween.
Something just so cool about this nostalgia driven thriller series about a group of kids in the 1980’s caught up in a terrifying mystery, the major buzz around why Stranger Things is so good is evident from the first five minutes of the very first episode. One of those rare shows that has the ability to hook you in right from the get go and grab your attention immediately – Different dimensions, otherworldly beasts and the greatest child actors around right now are all just a part of why this is such an obsessive pop culture phenomenon.
No matter all the horror flicks and everything else coming our way this Halloween season, nothing is more anticipated. Dominating not only Netflix, the science fiction genre or the collective world’s interest last year, the pressure is real. But with early reviews already raving on how good this follow up is, die-hard fans and average Netflixers alike have nothing to worry about.
Featuring all our favourite returning characters from Eleven, Dustin, Mike, Hopper and Joyce to Nancy, Jonathan and Steve, names you now know Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo and Finn Wolfhard join David Harbour, Winona Ryder and season two new recruits Sean Austin (Lord of the Rings, The Goonies) and Aussie star Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers) for the next chapter in The Duffer Brothers’ critically acclaimed creation.
Prepare yourselves. It only gets stranger.
