Man cannot live on food alone. And music nourishes the soul. But when the two are combined, the recall of emotions is heightened.
The glass of red while listening to Puccini tastes sweeter. Chocolate on the palate as Chopin plays on the stereo is all the more richer. But munching on special glazed ribs, barbequed beef and ‘slaw as DJ Cutloose plays Marvin Gaye’s Got to Give it Up from the decks is a special experience. Add having a Capi or Red Bull in hand while overlooking the cityscape from a rooftop with brilliant blue skies, and it’s an unforgettable experience.
Any recurrence to those tastes of ‘slaw means an instant return to this moment, because food and music combined is that evocative. And this is the intention of Cut & Cook BBQ. Trent Wildman as DJ Cutloose has combined his love for cooking with his other love for playing house, edgy RnB and hiphop music on the decks for the ultimate experience. “Cut & Cook is the combination of food and music,” Trent explains. “It’s the combination of me cutting and chopping music and samples and songs and chopping and cutting up food. And how doing both of those things creates something new.”
Earning his name juggling the lyrics of “Cut Loose” from iconic track Footloose on the decks, Trent has since acquired the unique niche of being the chameleon of DJs. His talents see him playing across the electronic music spectrum of house to drum n bass, hiphop and classics in every notable club in The City, with a following that spans around the world. And while his devotion to music is infamous, his skills in the kitchen is starting to extend beyond his circle of friends to be streamed across the internet. Cut & Cook reveals all the laidback action of a house party with friends. It’s an informal cooking show that sees Trent talking the audience through his recipes, captures the banter between him and his friends, and features him and other DJs dropping tracks on the decks. The climax of the show culminates in the presentation of the dishes he’s been cooking, to his friends. Lucky friends.

And Trent has deeper plans of taking it to the next level, to film from unique locations across Australia.
This show perfectly encapsulates the active and unrestrained character of Trent Wildman that takes two different skills, mixes them the elevates them in the process. “As in both music and food,” Trent notes, “you can get different ingredients to create a piece. They work hand in hand. And I can do both of them as my very own special mashing of styles.”
