ABOUT THE WRITER: Emily Russ is an aspiring journalist with an obsession for all things rockabilly and vintage. A self-confessed film, music, food and history buff, Emily loves enjoying what the city has to offer.

Born from a love of copper, stone, wood and glass, Sunday Society unites homewares with eye-catching fashion pieces from their store in Coorparoo. The new design and style hub is an interior designer’s dream, focusing on quality and distinction while exuding timeless class and personality.

Owners Jann Ditchmen and Eliza Roberts are a mother-daughter team, proud to show off their new store and collections of local and international homewares, jewellery and accessories. The name Sunday Society is reminiscent of old-world charm. The store’s interior plays on this idea, seamlessly blending the classic with the modern. Attention is paid to current style trends with Sunday Society home to a stunning collection of marble, copper and bright neon pieces as well as other accessories and fashion items.

A walk around the store is a trip around the world. Jann and Eliza’s homewares displays are expertly designed, presenting Moroccan, African, Asian and Hamptons influences. A large, plush white sofa greets arrivals at the door surrounded by a Hamptons’ style lounge setting with a calming white, nude and green palette. The decorative French doors and fireplace act as simple backdrops in the store, evoking images of the dream house. At the heart of Sunday Society is their collection and the passionate artists and suppliers involved. Jillian Middleton from Gypset Cargo joins the talented team of suppliers. Her stunning chandelier hanging above the main counter is a striking statement piece, adorned with metal palm frond detail. Leanne Farinola from boho chic brand Losari also displays a number of pieces, including a bold shell tribal necklace and intricately woven macramé cushions. A working collaboration with local and international artists and suppliers, Sunday Society encourages its visitors to invest in quality and to show personality in their home.

Throughout Sunday Society, metallic pieces shine against dark tones oozing glamour and sophistication. Pops of colour also appear in the form of bright pink flamingo ornaments, kitsch cockatoo lamps and deep teal armchairs. Glimpses of vintage-inspired opera glasses and framed entomology pieces are a reminder of grand libraries filled with treasures read about in old-fashioned adventure novels – think Indiana Jones or Allan Quartermain. There are a number of eclectic yet elegant pieces on display, such as golden ox door knockers and decorative shell and feather plume wall artworks to draw instant ‘ooh’s and ‘ahhs’. Fans of the Glasshouse Fragrances will also be impressed by Sunday Society’s vast range of Glasshouse candles and scent diffusers, while Brisbane fashionistas will love their collection of Mooi Australia pony hair bags and Liberte jewellery. Every little niche, nook and cranny in the store is filled with something unique to capture the eye.
