Pull on your bellbottoms and strap on your best cork platform shoes; Newstead’s new supper club, Maggie May, is rocking a stylish 1970s vibe.

Proving that everything old is new again, this swanky new venue from Hallmark Hospitality Group takes you back to a time when olive-coloured leather, velvet curtains and timber panels were all the rage. (There’s even shagpile artwork on the walls!) A mirror-backed bar and mood lighting complement the relaxed yet fancy vibe to be found within. There are also alfresco dining options under era-appropriate vibrant orange umbrellas. It’s a gorgeous new offering and that’s before we even get to the cocktails and food.

This fruity concoction really hit the spot.

Head chef Sam Skelton continues the retro theme with classic share-plate style dining. Think fish  goujons with ’nduja mayo and lime gremolata, prawn rolls with sriracha mayo, gin-cured salmon with capers and bagel crisps and even fondue! Cuisine ranges from smaller share plates to larger mains and a delicious list of desserts to boot.

Not the late-night supper club type? Fear not, Maggie May also caters for the breakfast bunch with a tasty menu featuring all the standard morning fare plus exciting new twists on old faves. Think smashed avocado with goats cheese and dukkah, buttermilk pancakes with peanut butter pastry cream and choc chips, and breakfast hash consisting of sesame roasted potatoes, halloumi, spinach, semi-dried tomatoes and a poached egg. I know, our mouths are watering too.

This free-spirited new venue from the folks behind Lefties Music Hall and Hey Chica! Has certainly already made her mark on the Gasworks precinct, with the opening night party packed to the rafters.

Whether you’re after a morning nosh, decadent dinner or even a stylish little nightcap, it’s safe to say Maggie May, with her breezy alfresco areas, cosy leather booths, and vintage heart will be a new favourite.

Maggie May, 84 Longland Street, Newstead.
