“Yes I had a dream
I stood beneath an orange sky
With my brother standing by”
Alexi Murdoch, Orange Sky

As Australia’s first mobile laundry service for the homeless, Orange Sky Laundry is a world first, starting in Brisbane by two 20-year-old visionaries keen to change the world one wash at a time. With a custom-fitted van servicing parks and drop in centres across Australia and the wider community with industrial washers and dryers in each van, Orange Sky has been servicing all around Australia. Starting in Brisbane, driving to the the Gold Coast and beyond to Sydney, Melbourne and throughout Victoria, their incredible efforts have been recognised as Young Australians of the Year for 2016.

“We can’t wait to show you how we will make the most of this incredible opportunity,” Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett write, “as we continue expanding and connecting people across Australia and internationally in 2016 in a positive and genuine way.” On a mission to get together vehicles for conversations, opportunities and education through a free mobile laundry service for the homeless worldwide, Orange Sky Laundry want to utlise the community’s efforts for those struggling with the most basic of services – having clean clothes.

What started as a ‘crazy idea’ just over twelve months ago in October 2014 has evolved into a very community-minded project banding together two guys, 306 volunteers and amazing supporters and friends all around Australia. We can’t help but wonder if their mums ever griped at them to do the washing, though we’re pretty sure they’ve more than made up for it now. Orange Sky Laundry: true orange blue everyday Australian heroes.
