Underneath the bustling streets of Toowong, you can find a hidden bar ready to introduce you to their World of Whiskey. Modern-day underground speakeasy, The Walrus Club is opening its secretive doors on Thursday October 24 to those interested in trying their famous selection of whiskies.
From 6.30pm until 9pm, guests can taste 12 of over 50 international whiskies available on the night and be whiskied away (see what we did there!) to their countries of origin. To help transport you to each country, the event has organised national ambassadors and experts to help you learn about the whiskey and where it’s from. How many times can you say you’ve learned whilst drinking?
Notable highlights for guests to try are Scotland’s Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, Laphroaig and GlenAllachie and Irish coffees made with The Pogues Irish whiskey. Whiskey fans will be in heaven and will be thanking The Walrus Club for an event that celebrates the world’s best. We’d love to try them all!
The World of Whiskey event understands that whiskey tasting should be matched with a snack and Executive Chef, Simon Street knows just what to put on the menu. The Boatshed Restaurant will be serving some mouth-watering canapes for guests of The Walrus Club to devour and there will even be a cheese fondue station on the night you to enjoy (count us in).
For those wanting to try something a little different, The Walrus Club is well-known for its wide variety of rum blends, with 150 different options including Appleton Estate 50YO Jamaican Rum and Pusser’s English Navy Rum. There will also be a cocktail menu and unique spirits on offer ranging from Brisbane sourced drinks to spirits from distilleries across the world. We’ve got our glasses ready, but you won’t need to, as everyone who attends the event will get their very own Glencairn Whiskey Glass included in the ticket price (well worth it).
Tickets are $65 per person (plus booking fee) for the event and you’ll get the best whiskeys all under the one roof. The Walrus Club have gone authentic with their 1920’s style with a line-up of popular Brisbane jazz artists who will perform on the night. We can guarantee that the main stage will be buzzing with excited guests all night, drinking whiskey and embracing the mystery of the speakeasy (soon you’ll forget you’re in 2019).
The club itself takes pride in being a hub for patrons to escape the haste of every day and be transported back in time to a place that is roaring with life. From the outside of The Regatta Hotel, you’d never know that one of Brisbane’s best-kept secrets is hidden below. Once you enter either of the two entryways to The Walrus Club you’ll be transported to the fun and secretive 1920’s style den. The Walrus Club is available for bookings or, for those looking to join the lively club, you can mingle in the space (we know where we’ll be on a Saturday night).
For those wanting to find the venue, it’s hidden away at 543 Coronation Drive and is open from 5:30pm until late, 7 days a week.
