Oz Comic-Con is done and dusted for 2026, having taken over the Brisbane Convention and Entertainment Centre recently… and what a wonderful way to celebrate all things pop culture.
If you’re yet to be initiated into all the fun, Oz Comic-Con is is an annual convention that celebrates comics, anime, gaming, film, and television. It features celebrity guests, local and interstate artists and companies and community and gaming zones.
This year’s line up included Brandon Rogers (Helluva Boss) and acclaimed voice actors Lizzie Freeman (The Amazing Digital Circus, Genshin Impact), Adam McArthur (Jujutsu Kaisen) and Griffin Burns (Demon Slayer, Genshin Impact).
Fans seemed uber excited at the chance to meet the guests through photo opportunities, autograph sessions and live Q&A panels and if meet and greets weren’t for you, there was a huge selection of cosplay competitions and parades, gaming, artists, workshops, lip sync battles and hundreds of exhibitors.
Artist Alley was packed with amazing vendors, awesome artists and stellar products including Australia’s wildest comic: Bazza the Bogan Barbarian. Bazza’s a boss, he’s got two drop bears Thriller and Killer, and he runs “Bazza’s Monster Killing Business” from his man cave in Deadfern, South Sydney. Together they battle Zombies, Aliens, Carnivorous Cane Toads, Vampires and Killer Quokkas! These graphic novels were successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, are super cool, home grown and can be bought in a set! Not only was I introduced to Bazza but also to East Forged, an Australian nitro cold brew tea company that is changing the way we see tea!
I love that Oz Comic-Con isn’t just a celebration of all things pop culture but seems to really focus on what Australia has to offer in the industry because it’s things like live artist drawings and an incredible amount of local products and fan art that makes the convention truly special.
However, what I love the most about Comic-Con is the vibe of the attendees. There’s something so wholesome about a group of like minded people coming together to celebrate the things that bring them joy. Overhearing attendees tell each other how much they loved each other’s cosplays and wanting photos, applauding each other’s performances and the general hub bub and excitement was excellent to be a part of.
