Band of Frequencies are progressive surf roots rockers, uniting the best of surf rock with top musicianship. Since the turn of the century, Shannon Sol Carroll, OJ ‘The Juice’ Newcomb, Mark ‘Henimal’ Henman and Andrew Szumowski have been recognised across the music community for their premium musicianship. Shannon Sol’s eminent guitar skills and warm vocal tones first captured audiences‘ interests – along with his signature frizzy hair – from his days in prog world music collective affo dizzi act, while Andrew Szumowski established his name as a talented multi-instrumentalist keys – singer powerhouse, performing across Brisbane in a variety of cover and original bands; and part of the trio of Szumowski brothers known around Australia for their monster musicality. Along for the ride is Owen OJ ‘The Juice’ Newcombe; Conservatorium graduate and bass player extraordinaire; OJ too comes from a musical family, the Newcombes revered far and wide around the world for their musical prowess. Mark ‘Henimal’ Henman on drums can often be found knocking the snare and toms behind Bernard Fanning, as one of Australia’s finest drummers.

Together, they are heavy weights on the stage, their performing and songwriting skills seeing them perform around the world and also acknowledged in the 2012 Queensland Music Awards taking out the Blues/Roots Award, following the release of their album Rise Like The Sun. As independent wave makers, the boys combine their love for the beach with their musicianship, exploring the musical spectrum where sound ethics, sound vibrations and sound waves form the basis of their originals. To the Band of Frequencies, “the best journeys provide the answers to questions that you’d never even thought to ask before you left.” We asked Band of Frequencies to pick out their top 5 Green songs.
